Overview The Director of Transmission Engineering is responsible for directing a regional segment of the Transmission Engineering group, supervising technical designers, engineers, supervisors, and managers. In this role, the director leads business unit growth, development of engineering designs, preparation of proposals/estimates, and communication of technical and design information to customers. Directors ensure compliance with client procedures, design standards, state and federal regulatory requirements, and safety codes, and collaborate with other group managers on staffing and resource needs.
The director also works with division leaders to expand geographic footprint and client base. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of the Transmission Line design staff and operations. Manages resource balancing and forecasting across various clients and projects.
Manages the development of the supervisory staff and principal engineers through mentoring and hands‑on instruction. Manages and provides guidance and direction for professional communication with internal and external stakeholders. Leads initiatives to improve efficiencies, quality of product, and marketing opportunities.
Evaluates the performance and development of technical and supervisory staff. Collaborates with Division Leadership to develop, evaluate, and implement new policies and procedures which reflect best engineering practices. Collaborates with Division Leadership to develop new client opportunities and capture market share.
Collaborates with other departments and divisions on company‑wide initiatives. Maintains relationships with existing clients and seeks out opportunities with potential future clients. Required Skills Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical, Engineering from an ABET‑accredited engineering program. 7+ years’ experience in Power Transmission design with prior supervisor experience.
PE Licensure. Experience leading an engineering team, demonstrating proficiency in resource management and delegation of engineering tasks. Demonstrates ability to provide clear direction on project assignments of all levels of complexity.
Demonstrates ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Demonstrates good written and oral communication skills with internal and external stakeholders. Fosters project team setting, demonstrating, and encouraging good collaboration skills.
Ability and willingness to travel to various locations and work sites to meet with clients and support project work. Advanced knowledge of overhead & underground Transmission facilities and understanding of its integration into daily activities. Experience with NESC, ASCE and IEEE standards.
Proficiency in MS Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project).
