Job Description Job Description Title: Controls Engineer Location : Schaumburg, IL Shift: 1st Shift (Candidates will be able to flex hours with four 10 hour days and Fridays off available) Hire Type: Direct Hire Pay Rate: $84-100K+ Sterling Engineering is hiring a Controls Engineer for a highly stable, industryleading manufacturer known for technical innovation, handson engineering collaboration, and strong longterm career growth opportunities. Not overwhelming, about 25% travel anticipated for this role. 3 weeks PTO to start with profit sharing and available bonuses!
Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and specify electrical and control systems for industrial food-processing and automated equipment. Program, test, and optimize PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and related control components. Manage external contractors for control panel design and assembly, ensuring they meet technical and schedule requirements.
Lead custom equipment projects from quote through shipment and commissioning, working directly with customers to define requirements, timelines, and cost expectations. Travel domestically and internationally to support installation, integration, and commissioning of new production lines. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with at least one year of manufacturing experience.
Strong experience with programming and applying PLCs, VFDs, and industrial control systems (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley strongly preferred). Skilled in electrical design and interpreting wiring diagrams. Proficiency with AutoCAD, DraftSight, or similar tools for electrical schematics.
