MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Bridge Engineer on behalf of our client, a well-established Canadian consulting engineering firm with a strong transportation structures practice in Alberta. This role sits within a Transportation Structures team and will support bridge projects across the province, including structural analysis, design, evaluation, technical reporting, proposals, contract documentation, and project delivery. The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams while supporting project budgets, quality requirements, internal reporting, and client-facing deliverables.

This is a permanent opportunity based in Calgary or Edmonton, AB, with a hybrid work model. The successful candidate will be required to work in office 5 days per week for the first 3 months, then transition to 2 days per week in office. The Role As Bridge Engineer, you will lead and support technical work across bridge and transportation structure projects throughout Alberta.

You will be involved in analysis, design, evaluation, calculations, drawings, technical reports, proposals, contract documentation, project coordination, and mentorship of junior staff. This role is well suited to a registered P.Eng. with strong bridge engineering experience who can step into project work quickly, support mentorship, and contribute with limited ramp-up time. Key Responsibilities Bridge Design & Technical Delivery Lead and support structural analysis, design, evaluation, calculations, and drawing preparation for bridge and transportation structure projects.

Prepare technical reports based on engineering analysis, modelling, and design calculations. Support detailed technical work across bridge projects from planning and design through delivery. Review technical deliverables for quality, accuracy, and alignment with project requirements.

Project Coordination & Delivery Prepare proposals, bid documentation, and contract documentation. Monitor, control, and report project status internally and externally. Support project delivery within defined budget, schedule, and quality requirements.

Assist with project financials, including fee forecasting, preparation, and allocation. Team Leadership & Mentorship Lead design teams and coordinate technical work across project groups. Provide guidance, mentorship, and instruction to junior staff.

Work collaboratively with internal teams, clients, and project stakeholders. Contribute to a strong team environment focused on quality, communication, and project execution. Requirements Undergraduate degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.

Registered Professional Engineer with APEGA. 5+ years of progressive bridge engineering experience, with 8+ years strongly preferred. Experience leading or supporting bridge engineering work within a consulting environment. Strong experience in structural analysis, design, evaluation, calculations, drawings, and technical reporting.

Ability to contribute to project delivery with limited ramp-up time and support mentorship within the team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally as required. Nice to Haves Post-graduate degree in Structural Engineering. Consulting engineering experience preferred.

Owner-side bridge or transportation structures experience will also be considered. Experience with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors. Experience with City of Edmonton projects or requirements.

Experience preparing proposals, bid documentation, and contract documentation. Experience supporting project financials, including fee forecasting and allocation. Who You Are A strong communicator who can work effectively with clients, internal teams, and project stakeholders.

Organized and able to manage competing priorities across multiple project demands. Comfortable taking initiative and working independently while contributing to a team environment. A committed team player who is highly self-motivated.

Able to support junior staff through mentorship, guidance, and technical instruction. Calm under pressure and able to maintain quality while working within budget and schedule requirements. Growth-minded, with an interest in building a strong technical profile across bridge projects in Alberta.
