BigID Engineer / Information Governance Engineer

Job Title: BigID Engineer / Information Governance Engineer Location: Reston, Virginia (Hybrid - 1-2 Days Onsite per Week) Duration: 12+ Month Contract Interview Mode: Video Role Overview We are seeking an Information Governance Engineer with hands-on experience in BigID to support a data discovery and remediation program. This role focuses on improving classification accuracy and transforming discovery findings into structured, actionable workflows. Key Responsibilities * Execute and monitor data discovery scans across priority data sources * Develop and fine-tune classifiers (regex, NER, pattern matching) to improve accuracy and reduce false positives * Analyze findings such as: * Sensitive data exposure * Aged data * Retention risks * Create and manage remediation tickets in Jira (future transition to ServiceNow) * Ensure consistent tagging, routing, and tracking of issues * Build repeatable workflows from discovery to remediation * Maintain documentation for processes and continuous improvements Required Qualifications * Hands-on experience with BigID or similar data discovery tools * Experience in classifier development/tuning (regex, pattern matching, NER) * Familiarity with ticketing systems (Jira, ServiceNow) * Understanding of structured vs. unstructured data * Knowledge of data governance, privacy, or security principles * Basic scripting/querying skills ( SQL, Python, APIs * Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Success Criteria * Improved classification accuracy and reduced false positives * Efficient conversion of findings into actionable remediation tickets * Establishment of scalable, repeatable workflows
