Position Summary Step into the engine room of a Division I football program. As the Assistant to the Football General Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of SDSU Football by supporting roster strategy, recruiting operations, and financial planning. This is a high‑impact position where analytics meets athletics, and where your insights help build a competitive, sustainable program.
You’ll collaborate closely with coaches, recruiting staff, and key stakeholders to drive smart, data‑informed decisions that elevate performance on and off the field. Key Responsibilities Roster Strategy & Player Development: Support roster construction, evaluate talent across high‑school and transfer pipelines, and contribute to long‑term team planning. Financial & NIL Strategy: Assist in managing roster budgets, scholarship allocations, and Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) initiatives.
Recruiting Operations: Maintain recruiting databases, assess prospects, and provide actionable insights to coaching staff. Data & Analytics: Leverage football operations systems and analytics tools to inform player valuation, roster decisions, and financial modeling. Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between coaches, recruiting staff, and external partners including donors and NIL collectives.
Program Support: Contribute to special projects, stakeholder engagement, and day‑to‑day football operations. Position Information Full‑time, benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on February 28, 2027. Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego. Education and Experience Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience. Additional experience that demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Key Qualifications Advanced knowledge and understanding of athletics program administration, regulations, and compliance. Advanced analytical and organizational skills to plan, prioritize, and manage complex athletics administration tasks.
Demonstrated competence in independently applying advanced judgment to resolve difficult problems. Advanced communication skills to create detailed reports and persuade stakeholders at all levels. Ability to lead, mentor, and train other athletics administration staff.
Advanced public and internal relations skills to represent the university and athletics department, engage and collaborate with student‑athletes, coaches, and university leadership. Advanced skill in incorporating technology and relevant athletics administration tools. Ability to work flexible hours and travel out of town.
Licenses / Certifications Required Valid California driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire. Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience in alignment with the department’s budget and equity guidelines.
Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 2 ($6,003 per month) for highly qualified candidates. Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement. CSU Classification Salary Range: Athletics Administrative Professional III – $5,885 – $8,573 per month (Step 1–Step 20).
