Job Description The Research Department at Dimensional is integral to both day‑to‑day functioning and long‑term strategy. It produces high‑quality research on investments and financial markets, leads the development of the firm’s investment approach, portfolio management, trading, and implementation of technology solutions to improve efficiency. Our team seeks an analyst or associate who supports key initiatives spanning research and other investment and client service teams.
Work is team‑based and involves designing and building systems and processes to improve operational efficiencies, running empirical analysis on a broad scope of investment topics, and maintaining data sets and tools key to portfolio decision making. Success means learning the principles of Dimensional’s investment philosophy, applying them, and maintaining the operational processes that drive investments. Responsibilities Execute simulation analyses for research on asset pricing models and economic studies.
Compile and manage large data sets from multiple sources. Validate inputs to research, portfolio management, and client reporting for accuracy. Review academic papers to improve understanding of asset pricing, identify research opportunities, conduct analyses, and present findings to internal teams.
Coordinate with investment and client service teams to answer internal and client questions. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Demonstrated capacity for and interest in quantitative work.
At least one year of professional experience. Knowledge of databases and query languages (T‑SQL, SAS) strongly considered. Proficiency in Python required; additional coding skills (R, Matlab, Fortran, SAS) are a plus.
Knowledge of econometrics, statistics, probability, financial markets, and investments. Understanding of portfolio theories and empirical asset pricing models such as CAPM and the Fama‑French models. Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Intellectual curiosity combined with attention to detail. Detail‑oriented and comfortable working with large datasets.
Knowledge and experience in fixed‑income, derivative pricing, and applying machine learning in asset pricing research is a plus.
