The closing date is 20 June 2026 Applications are invited for a colleague to join our well established ANNP team within our Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified ANNP to join our team and gain experience in tertiary level neonatal intensive care. The regional NICU at St Michael's Hospital provides regional tertiary neonatal intensive care for medical patients and supra-regional services for infants with surgical, neurosurgical and cardiac problems. It also works closely with the regional South West Neonatal Advice and Retrieval (SONAR) team. The ANNP role encompasses all four pillars of advanced practice with 80% clinical and 20% non‑clinical responsibilities including leadership and management, research and audit, and education, contributing to service improvement and professional development. Main duties of the job The postholder will work across the Tier 1 rota to provide high level clinical care within the Neonatal unit, Central delivery suite, Transitional Care and postnatal wards. They will work closely with specialist services across the Trust and the senior medical team including Consultants, Registrars and ANNPs. The postholder will take a lead role in the immediate, critical and ongoing management of sick infants and their families, including the safe transportation of sick infants within the Trust. They are an Independent Prescriber and will proactively educate the nursing and medical teams and families of the patients within the neonatal unit.
They will also participate in leadership activities, audit and research projects, update unit protocols, and provide ongoing supervision and support for the induction and training of medical and nursing staff, including mentoring trainee ANNPs. Person Specification Qualifications and Training MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice Neonatal Critical Care Course or equivalent (QiS) First Level Registered Nurse BSc RGN/RSCN/RN or Child Branch Current registration with NMC Current registration with NMC as a Non-Medical Prescriber ARNI provider NLS instructor BSc Neonatal Studies or equivalent Mentoring and Assessing or Teaching qualification Knowledge and Experience Recent significant experience as an ANNP Demonstrate clinical expertise in neonatal care Familiar with current local and national issues Demonstrate leadership skills and knowledge Evidence of teaching experience Demonstrate ability to support others Conscientious, committed and reliable Skills and Abilities Basic computer skills Self-motivated and able to motivate others Good problem solving ability and skills Evidence of ability to use initiative, lead a team and manage change Ability to manage when under both individual and/or work pressure Good interpersonal communication and time management skills Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own and work of others Assertive and proactive Possess a high level of skill and competency in relevant area of practice Research and audit experience Additional & Aptitudes Resilient Ability to deal sensitively with emotive issues/situations Demonstrates personal insight and awareness Dynamic Flexible Enthusiastic and motivated Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
